OCIA (formerly RCIA)

Team
Members facilitate the ongoing implementation of the OCIA process in the parish. Time is spent insuring that sessions for Inquiry, Catechumenate, and Mystagogy are scheduled, staffed and implemented. The Team also prepares for the celebration of the various rites that take place throughout the process. Requirements to be part of the team is that you be a fully initiated Catholic who has zeal for the Church and for bringing others to the faith. Minimum age is 16.

Sponsors
Each catechumen and candidate is assigned someone from our parish to wail with them on the journey of faith leading to the full initiation into the Church. A sponsor is someone who is willing to share the ways in which he or she lives out their baptismal call to discipleship in the Church. Requirements to be a sponsor is that you be a fully initiated Catholic who has zeal for the Church and for bringing others to the faith. Minimum age is 16.

Catechist
Those responsible for “teaching” those who will be fully initiated. The catechist formally passes on the Traditions of our faith during the Sunday OCIA sessions. The catechist is responsible for preparing the lesson.

Discussion Leader
The Discussion Leader is responsible for being present during the Sunday liturgy and is dismissed along with the Catechumens after the homily. She/he is responsible for helping the Catechumens “break open the Word” that is proclaimed at the Sunday Mass. Resources are provided to assist in this task. Requirements are that the leader be fully initiated with a desire to share the faith, especially as it is related to living the scriptures.
